We had the pleasure and honor of meeting Ruchira Gupta today. Founder of Apne Aap, Ruchira Gupta is one of the leading <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmy-winning journalist who fights sex trafficking and helps women and girls escape the prostitution system. <\/p>\n\n

She has received the French Ordre National du M\u00e9rite<\/em>, the Clinton Global Citizen Award<\/em> and the title of Woman of Distinction from the UN NGO CSW<\/em>, among other honors, for her contribution to the creation of the United Nations Fund for Survivors of Trafficking<\/a>, the passage of the American Trafficking Victims Protection Act and her grassroots activism with Apne Aap. She also holds a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Smith College. She co-authored a book with Gloria Steinem, ” <\/em>As if Women Matter<\/em><\/a> “ and<\/em> edited two anthologies, ” <\/em>River of Flesh<\/em><\/a> “ and<\/em> “Renu’s letters to Birju Babu”<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n

Ruchira has worked for the United Nations in Nepal, Thailand, Kosovo, Iran and the USA. She occasionally teaches as a visiting professor at New York University’s Center for Global Affairs. <\/p>\n\n
